Waterkeepers Bangladesh Consortium in association with a number of organizations organized a community program to protect the Turag River from encroachment and pollution. The body organized a discussion in Aminbazar area of the capital on Saturday.
Md Rakib Ahmed, chairman, Aminbazar Union Parishad, attended the meeting as the chief guest while Sharif Jamil, coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh was the main speaker at the event.
The organizers decided to form a body named the Turag River Coalition aimed at saving the river.
The chief guest at the event said that all the canals in the union must be freed from illegal occupation. He sought coordinated efforts from all quarters in this regard.
