Akima is a member of ward no. 03 Youth Brigade of Rajshahi City Corporation under the DARAU project of Promoting Advocacy and Rights Activity. She emerges as a change maker of her community. Akima is one of them who stand for her community people during this pandemic. She has got spirit to do the social work after involving at Youth Brigade and was continued the social work tremendously.
She tried to get government and non-government relief efforts for the poor helpless people. She sprayed disinfectants on roadsides and neighborhoods in her area during the pandemic. She arranged soaps at 5o roadside water tap so that general people can clean their hands regularly. She distributed masks, soaps and corona awareness leaflets to 200 families. She creates awareness among women and children of her area on hand washing rules and hang up banners at various places.
“I feel inner peace when I saw smiles at the faces of street children, they are now involved in income generating activities. I am really thankful to DARAO project to give me this confidence” said Akima.
She arranges non-governmental cash grants of 1600 taka for 30 poor families during the pandemic. She carried out various activities related to the health and education for 101 street children. When street children become addicted to drugs, she arranges their treatment through various institutions. She also arranges work for the street children through various technical trainings such as: making candles, sticks or packets, bags, sewing training for women etc. She creates awareness among the community people on effect of drugs, violence against women, child labor, child marriage and dowry.
DARAU project acknowledged her contribution as a local hero for such activities as a member of Youth Brigade.
