YPSA jointly with Center on Budget and Policy of Dhaka University in collaboration with the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of the Prime Minister’s Office and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) organized a consultative meeting on Divisional Level Governance Self-Assessment under National Governance Assessment Framework 2020.  The event took place at the St. Martin Hotel, Chattaogram on 4th January, 2020.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development), Chattogram, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman was present as chief guest while Professor of Development Studies Department of Dhaka University and Center on Budget and Policy Fellow Mr. Kazi Maruful Islam presided over the meeting.

The meeting was arranges with the participation of government officials from various departments, elected representatives, civil society, youth representatives and the media  representatives to gather quality and quantitative information on various issues of ‘good governance’ in the regional context of Chattogram.

Speech by Ashekur Rahman

Md. Arifur Rahman, chief executive at YPSA said in his welcome speech, various international organizations including the United Nations have set various indicators to measure the political, economic and social situation in different countries of the world. However, when a country like Bangladesh is evaluated through these indicators, in many cases the real picture is not revealed, or the various achievements of Bangladesh as a state remain out of consideration. For these reasons, the Government’s Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) is working to formulate a local good governance assessment framework to gain a clear idea of ​​Bangladesh’s achievements in various branches of ‘good governance’ and to prepare the ground for further development. In this regard, the Center on Budget and Policy of Dhaka University and various development agencies are playing a role as partners of the government to bring up objective research data.

Meeting

Krishna Kumar Shah, member of the Center on Budget and Policy, Nusrat Sultana, Director, Chittagong Divisional Social Service Office, Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Chattogram Divisional Director of the Department of Primary Education. Shafiqul Islam and Ashekur Rahman, Assistant Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) were present in the meeting.
